Call to assist schools that water back flow flooded in Kisumu

THERE has been a call to help in the reconstruction of a number of schools within Kabonyo/Kanyagwal ward in Kisumu County that the back flow of water from Lake Victoria damaged.

President of Mwalimu James Japheth Mwamu Foundation says there is need for various stakeholders to assist in helping schools namely Odienya Primary and Secondary school, Oseth and Nyamrundu primary schools within the said ward so that learning can resume for them to be reconstructed.

Addressing the press when the foundation donated hand washing tanks, Sanitizers and Face masks to the four schools, the Foundation’s President James Aggrey Mwamu said the four schools were really damaged through the water back flow from Lake Victoria following heavy rain falls witnessed last year.

“I want to state it here that I have visited these four schools within Kabonyo/Kanyagwal ward and they are still in pathetic states hence my appeal to well-wishers,  the community at large as well other stakeholders to help in ensuring that these schools are reconstructed so that learning resumes,” he says

He says currently, pupils from some of the schools are being hosted in the neighboring schools that were not seriously affected during the water back flow and this is not very health especially at this time when the third wave of Corona Virus is serious.

Mwamu says by the time schools will be re-opening for the third term in May this year, something should be done about them for the pupils and teacher to get them ready for learning to resume.

Mwamu at the same time urged the public to be very much careful since the third wave of Covid-19 has been very lethal hence need to take keen containment measures as announced by the Government.

“I want to urge our people to be very careful with the Corona Virus. This is because it is still with us and we must observe the Ministry of Health Guideline on Covid-19,” Mwamu says.

Meanwhile, So far close to 44 schools both primary and secondary schools in Kisumu County have benefited from the donation of Hand washing tanks, Face masks and sanitizers by Mwalimu James Japheth Mwamu Foundation.

Last week, four more schools namely Odienya Primary and Secondary school and Oseth and Nyamrundu Primary schools within Kabonyo/Kanyagwal benefitted from the donation

Speaking at the two schools during the donations, President of Mwalimu James Japheth Mwamu Foundation James Aggrey Mwamu said the four schools have made the number of those that have benefited from the donation to be at 44 schools.

Mwamu says the donation has been so helpful in preventing the spread of Corona virus that its first case was reported in the country last year in March.
