Firm invests about shs 16B in manufacturing tiles in Kisumu

AN International Firm is set to invest about sh 16 billion in putting up tile manufacturing factory in Kisumu County.

The company known as KEDA Ceramic which is a Chinese Company registered in Kenya has embarked on the construction work at the site of the Company within Miwani area in Muhoroni sub-county in a 150 acre plot.

Addressing the press in Kisumu today, the Company’s representative Riquin Li said they have a great interest in manufacturing both floor and wall tiles.

He says the company will use the modern technology in manufacturing the tiles once the construction work is complete.

He says by the end of this year December, the work will commenced on manufacturing the commodities.

Li says the company has taken the advantage on the increasing demand of housing in Kenya especially in Western Kenya region to establish the factory within Kisumu County.

“We intend to use the now refurbished Kisumu Port to export our finished products to other parts of East and Central Africa,” Li says.

He adds that there will be job creation to about 2,500 people, adding that this will bring a lot of benefits to Kisumu County.

Kisumu Governor Prof Peter Anyang Nyong’o says the company is one of the investors that have chosen to work with the County Government of Kisumu to help improve its economy.

“We have conducted due diligence with concerned authorities and are convinced that this company is fully committed to this project,” Governor Anyang says.

The Governor has urged the Company to consider giving first priority to the residents within the locality when employing staff to work within it.

“The Company has come at a time the County Government of Kisumu has commenced a campaign to woo both local and international investors to help boost our economy and create more job opportunities for our people,” Anyang adds.
