 Kisumu Leaders told to table list on fishing and sugar industries to Uhuru during his visit

 

Political leaders in Kisumu have been urged to table the issues of dwindling fishing and Sugar Industries before President Uhuru Kenyatta when he visit Kisumu for Madaraka day celebrations as well as commissioning development projects.

 

Lawyer Ken Amondi says these are the two Major issue which have affected and the members of the public making them not to afford putting food on their tables.

 

Amondi says while the President is visiting the region to commission a number of projects within, it is also good for him to be asked to help in the revival of the two sectors within the region.

 

Addressing the press at his office in Kisumu, Amondi said the two are the major economic activities for the people of Nyanza region hence needs to be addressed amicably.

 

He says currently, there is even no fish processing plant within the region and there is need to establish such to help in value addition processes for the fisher folks to get good benefit from the fishing activities.

 

“The establishment of fish processing plant within this region will ensure that the fish from Lake Victoria will fetch more money even in the international markets and this is an issue which should be looked into when President Kenyatta arrives in Kisumu and should be given a priority,” he says 

 

He also say the issue of dwindling sugar Industry where state owned sugar millers face a number of challenges should also be addressed.

 

“The state owned sugar millers should be a great boost from the National Government as this will enable them thrive again and sugarcane farmers will also reap in the process,” he adds  

 

Lawyer Amondi who is aspiring to be an MP in Kisumu Central in 2022 next year has urged the residents of the area to give heroic welcome to President Kenyatta when he visit Kisumu City.
