visit
Political
leaders in Kisumu have been urged to table the issues of dwindling
fishing and Sugar Industries before President Uhuru Kenyatta when he visit
Kisumu for Madaraka day celebrations as well as commissioning development
projects.
Lawyer Ken Amondi says
these are the two Major issue which have affected and the members of the public
making them not to afford putting food on their tables.
Amondi says while the
President is visiting the region to commission a number of projects within, it
is also good for him to be asked to help in the revival of the two sectors
within the region.
Addressing the press
at his office in Kisumu, Amondi said the two are the major economic activities
for the people of Nyanza region hence needs to be addressed amicably.
He says currently,
there is even no fish processing plant within the region and there is need to
establish such to help in value addition processes for the fisher folks to get
good benefit from the fishing activities.
“The establishment of
fish processing plant within this region will ensure that the fish from Lake
Victoria will fetch more money even in the international markets and this is an
issue which should be looked into when President Kenyatta arrives in Kisumu and
should be given a priority,” he says
He also say the issue
of dwindling sugar Industry where state owned sugar millers face a number of
challenges should also be addressed.
“The state owned sugar
millers should be a great boost from the National Government as this will
enable them thrive again and sugarcane farmers will also reap in the process,”
he adds
