Kisumu is not going the Indian way on Covid-19, says Nyong’o

 

Kisumu County and its environs is not going the Indian way as far as covid-19 is concerned, area Governor Prof Peter Anyang Nyong’o has said.

 

The Governor has indicated that the declaration is science-based and backed with facts.

 

Kisumu Governor has also refuted media reports claiming that a number of people have been infected by the Indian Covid 19 Variant.

 

He says the Covid 19 Indian Variant has been tamed and subdued.

 

He says the county has since reported 3874 covid-19 cases out of the 35041 cumulative tests done since the breakout of the disease since last year.

 

The Governor adds that county has also recorded 97 deaths in the same period with one death in the last one week.

 

“The weekly positivity rate for the week ending May 16th was 19%, there are 136 active cases in the isolation and fatality cases stands at 2.5%,” he says 

 

The governor also indicated that the numbers reported is obtained cumulatively from other counties given its regional referral status.

 

 He says the county government of Kisumu has heightened covid-19 mitigation measures and thanked the frontline workers for their commitment.

 

The governor at the same time welcome President Uhuru Kenyatta to Kisumu during his visit later this month for the Madaraka Day celebrations which will be held on 1st June at the newly built Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Mamboleo.

 

The governor was accompanied by the CEC for health, Prof Boaz Nyunya, C.E.O of the county referral hospital, George Rae and officials from the MOH.
