Let only genuine Kisumu traders benefit, Lawyer tells Kisumu cartels

Only genuine traders should occupy business spaces at Uhuru Business Park in Kisumu but not a ring of cartels, a lawyer has said.

Lawyer James Aggrey Mwamu says cartels should never be allowed to take control over the newly built market with an aim of locating the market places to traders whose premises were demolished within the Lakeside city.

Addressing the press in Kisumu after donating Covid 19 kits like hand washing tank and sanitizers to Dunga Primary school through Mwalimu James Japheth Mwamu Foundation, Mwamu said only those traders whose stalls were demolished should be allocated spaces at the newly built market that President Uhuru Kenyatta will commission when he visit the Lakeside city this weekend.

Mwamu says should such like a thing happen and genuine traders not get the spaces there then he and a team of lawyers will move to court to represent the traders in challenging such.

“Only those traders whose structures were demolished within Kisumu City should surely benefit by being allocated spaces at the new Market that has been built in Kisumu by the National Government in partnership with the County Government of Kisumu but not the rich people in the name of cartels who want to get the spaces then give to traders at a fee. This is not right.” Mwamu says.

He appeals to both the National Government and County Government of Kisumu to ensure that only those traders who deserve to get the spaces without any biases.

He has also told the residents to fully welcome President Uhuru Kenyatta who will visit the region beginning this weekend to commission various development projects that the National Government has been implementing in Kisumu and other parts of Nyanza region as well as celebrating this Year’s Madaraka Day Celebrations at Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Mamboleo area.

“We are asking the residents of Kisumu County to receive the Head of State warmly when he arrives to commission various projects. This is because such visits normally comes with huge benefits to the people,” Mwamu adds.

At the same time Mwalimu James Japheth Mwamu foundation also donated books and shopping Vouchers to three best KCPE 2020 Candidates at Dunga Primary school in Kisumu Central Constituency who did well in the exams and will proceed to form one this July.

This is the third school whose KCPE best Candidates have benefitted from the foundation’s donation for their good performance in the national examination.

The other two schools include Ragumo Primary school in Kisumu East Constituency and Nyakoko Primary School in Muhoroni Constituency where six best candidates in KCPE 2020 from each school have benefited from the foundation’s donations.

He has urged Parents to take the education of both their sons and daughters seriously by ensuring that they monitor keenly on their academic progress right from Primary schools to the university level.
