Duba re-elected as Kenya County Governments’ workers Union boss

DELEGATES of the Kenya County Governments Workers Union have re-elected Roba Duba as their General Secretary in a peace poll held in Kisumu on Friday.

The over 400 delegates that converged at Tom Mboya Labour College also elected the team allied to Duba flooring their opponents in the hotly contested polls that police tightly offered security until the results were announced.

Addressing the press at the venue after being declared the winner, the Kenya County Governments Workers Union General Secretary Roba Duba said democracy has been at play during the polls.

He says the elections have been peaceful, adding that the members of the union has played their democratic roles by participating in the peaceful elections.

“The members of this Union have spoken and we really appreciate them to be peace during the polls until we have now emerged victorious,” Duba says.

He has promised to work with all the members of the union across the country.

“I will deliver justice and service needed by the all-County Governments’ workers across the county without fear or favor,” he adds.

During the hotly contested polls, Roba Duba was elected the General Secretary of the Union after he managed to garner 268 Votes against his closest challenger for the seat Matilda Kimetto who managed 109 votes while Abigani Bashir managed 2 votes.

Others who were elected include John Ndunda as the Deputy General Secretary, Mary Murongoro as the National Chairperson and Tom Kang’ethe as the National Treasurer.

Mercy Muthoni was elected the National Women Representative and Collins Nkoital as the National Youth Representative.

Kimetto who is the Outgoing Deputy General Secretary said democracy has prevailed as the workers spoke loudly by electing the national officials.

She has promised to work at the Nairobi Branch level which she represent as a delegate and promise support the winning team.

“We really respect the decision of the workers who have elected their new national officials. Personally I am going to fight at the branch level to ensure that the workers’ terms and conditions of service we maintained, preserved and improved on a constant basis,” she says
