IEBC told to conduct efficient and transparent elections next year

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has been urged to conduct efficient, transparent and verifiable elections come next August next year’s polls.

Former President of the East African Law Society James Aggrey Mwamu says now that the Commission is fully constituted as per the requirement of the law then it doesn't  have an excuse of not conducting Free, fair, Transparent and verifiable elections next year.

He says Preparation should be put earlier enough to ensure that the poll is a success across the country.

He says the issues of procuring of elections materials should be done through an above board procurement process.

Mwamu says that the Electoral body have enough time to prepare for a clean election which will never be challenged in Court after the polls conducted and its outcome determined especially the Presidential election.

“Now that IEBC has fully been constituted and have all the seven commissioners needed to make it a full Commission, they now have no excuse of not conducting a credible polls come next year,” he says.

Mwamu has also asked the Electoral body to ensure that the electoral code of conduct is fully adhered to by various aspiring candidates who will be nominated to run for various political posts.

The lawyer at the same time told those who have not yet registered as voters to do so when IEBC kicks off the process of registering voters across the country.

“We want to take this opportunity to urge our people in the Six counties within the Nyanza region especially the youth who have not yet registered as voters to kindly take their time and register when IEBC will do mass voter registration across the country. This is a very important exercise which is a constitutional right enshrined in the constitution of Kenya 2010,” Mwamu adds.

Mwamu has equally urged schools to ensure that their students do well academically and get good grades to study marketable courses at the university level

Through Kisumu Boys High School Alumni Association, Mwamu as the President of the Association and some of its members have awarded some of the Best KCSE candidates in the last year's Exams at Ksm Boys (Now Kisumu School).

The students who are about to join university this month have been awarded with cash and other items that will help them to pursue their University Education.
