 Turn up in large numbers to register as voters, Kisumu Senatorial aspirant urges residents

AN Aspirant for the Kisumu Senatorial seat in the next Year’s General Election has urged residents within the Seven Sub-counties in Kisumu County to turn up in large numbers and register as voters ahead of the said polls.

Renowned lawyer Prof Tom Ojienda who is aspiring to be the next Kisumu Senator during the next year’s polls in August says the forthcoming exercise being conduct by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission {IEBC} is a very vital one hence many register of Kisumu County who have never been registered as voters should come out in large for the exercise that kicks off from next month of October.

Addressing the press after meeting Kisumu Central Constituency Orange Democratic Movement {ODM} Party officials led by their Chairman Seth Ochieng Kanga AKA Adui Nyang and other constituency’s ODM Party officials, Ojienda said the enhanced voter registration exercise must be taken seriously by all those people who are ready to take part in the voting exercise during the next year’s General Election.

Ojienda says the current population of voters in Kisumu County is more than half a million, adding that there is need to increase it to a million during the forthcoming exercise in readiness for the next year’s polls.

He says this will be possible with full consultation and involvement of the national ODM Party office as well as the Kisumu Central constituency ODM office at the grass root level.

He says he has shared his bid to vie for the Kisumu County Senatorial Seat in the next year’s General Election so as to improve the County’s representation at the Senate.

“The need to focus on improving and lifting the failing sugar industry in Kisumu County and the need to ensure that the devolve structure work at the grass root level and is put on line as has done the current Governor of Kisumu County Prof Peter Anyang Nyong’o have informed my bid to vie for the Senate seat for Kisumu County next year,” Ojienda says.

He says he intends to support the Current Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang Nyong’o’s manifesto in ensuring that Kisumu County delivers on devolution and is a case study in the country.

Kisumu county Senatorial seat in the next year’s polls has attracted a number of aspirants that include Prof Tom Ojienda, Former Muhoroni Member of Parliament and the current Kisumu County ODM Party Chairman Prof Patrick Ayiecho Olweny, Youthful Aspirant Philip Pande among others.

Former Kisumu County Women Representative and now a nominated Senator Rose Nyamunga is also said to be eyeing the Senatorial seat come next year’s polls.

The Kisumu County Senatorial seat is currently held by Fred Outa who has set his eyes in contesting the Kisumu County Gubernatorial seat with an aim of wrestling it from its current holder Prof Peter Anyang Nyong’o who is serving his first term after being elected the Second Governor of Kisumu County when he trounced the first Governor Jack Ranguma.
