A Kisumu Court has today ordered a suspect in a murder case to undergo a mental assessment test before taking plea.

Kisumu Resident Magistrate Beryl Omollo has ordered that the Suspect Collins Oulo Okundi be subjected to brain assessment test at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu City.

Okundi is suspected to have killed Barack Oduor, the bodyguard of Idah Odinga who is the wife of Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga nearly three weeks ago in Kisumu.

Delivering the ruling, Kisumu Resident Magistrate Beryl Omollo also ordered that the suspect be reminded in custody within Kodiaga Prisons where he will be arraigned in court to take plea later this week.

The resident Magistrate also directed that the suspect be brought before the High Court in Kisumu to take plea this Thursday November 3, 2022.

The court orders have been granted following the today’s successful application by the prosecution who have requested that the suspect be subjected to brain assessment test before taking pleas in the matter.

Earlier, the suspect’s lawyer John Onkendi opposed the application by the prosecution and wanted the suspect to take plea today.

The suspect’s lawyer later obliged to the Court orders.

Collins Oulo Okundi is a suspect in an incident in which Barack Oduor, the bodyguard of Idah Odinga was shot dead in Kisumu more than two weeks ago when a disagreement occurred.

Another person was left injured and was hospitalized following the shooting incident.

Oduor was buried last Friday at his home in Bondo Sub-county within Siaya County.
