 NO to GMO, Says Raila

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has said the Genetically Modified Foods and seeds will not be allowed into the country after the Government of President William Ruto recently lifted the ban imposed on GMO in the country more than ten years ago.

Raila says the GMO foods and seeds are not fit for human health hence should never be allowed into the country following the lifting of the ban.

Addressing mourner in Bondo Constituency today, Odinga claimed countries like Germany, France and Sweden have done research on the GMO foods and seeds and have found that they are not fit for human health.

Odinga says the lives of Kenyans should never be gambled with by introducing GMOs in the country, adding they will never accept such a move at all cost.

“You can do anything including rigging of elections but you can’t mess the lives of Kenyans through GMOs,” says Odinga.

Odinga has challenged the Members of Parliament to play their oversight role properly to offer checks and balances to the Government.

“We have the Members of Parliament, Senators, Members of the County Assemblies and Governors who should play their roles effectively,” Odinga adds.

Odinga’s sentiments comes barely a few weeks after the Government of President William Ruto lifted the ban on Genetically Modified foods and seeds that was done about ten years ago.

Various stakeholders have aired their views on the issue with some supporting the lifting of the ban while others wanting the ban to continue.
