Ksm Governor drops three CECs as he restructures his cabinet

Kisumu Governor Prof Peter Anyang Nyong’o has dropped three of his County Executive Committee members as he restructure cabinet for his second and final term in office.

County Executive Committee Members axed include Gilchrist Okuom in charge of Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock, Dickson Obungu in charge of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development and the one who has been in charge of Tourism, Sports, Culture and Arts Achie Ojany Alai.

In signed Press statement to the news rooms dated October 7, 2022, Kisumu Governor has retained George Omondi Okong’o in the Finance and Planning Docket and added the ICT Department that was previously under the Education Docket.

The Governor has also retained John Obiero Awiti who has been the CEC Member in charge of Education. However, the Department has been restructured as Department of Education, Technical Training, Innovation and Social Services.

Faridah Salim who has been in charge of Roads and Public works has been moved to another docket of Trade Tourism, Industry and Marketing while Salmon Orimba who has been in charge of Water and Environment Docket has been moved to infrastructure, Energy and Public works.

Nyong’o has also nominated former Majority Leader at the County Assembly of Kisumu Ken Onyango in the Agriculture, Fisheries, Livestock Development and Irrigation.

The Governor has also nominated Kennedy Hongo in the docket of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development.

The Governor has further nominated the Chief Officer in the Department of Health Dr Gregory Ganda who has been acting as the CEC in charge of Health as the one in charge of Medical Services, Public Health and Sanitation. Dr. Ganda has been acting CEC of Health since the death of Dr. Boaz Nyunya who was the CEC in the docket.

The docket of the Department of Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change will be under Salmon Orimba who will be acting as the CEC while John Obiero Awiti will act as CEC Member for the Department of Sports, Culture and Arts.

George Omondi Okong’o will act as CEC Member in the department of Public Service, County Administration and participatory Development, office of the Governor.

The seven nominees will now be vetted at the County Assembly of Kisumu after which they will be appointed upon approval by the County Assembly of Kisumu.
