County Assembly of Kisumu adjourns for long holiday

The Third County Assembly of Kisumu has adjourns its first session for a long recess that will take nearly two and half months.

Moving the motion on the adjournment for the long recess during a sitting presided over by the Speaker Elisha Jack Oraro, the County Assembly of Kisumu Leader of Majority Party Ken Ooko said the adjournment is in line with its Standing Orders that provides for a long recess for the County Assembly.

During the motion, the Leader of Majority told the County Assembly that the long recess will begin this Friday December 2, 2022 and will resume on the first Tuesday of February 2023.

“Pursuant to the County Assembly of Kisumu Standing Order number 25{1}, as read together with the gazette notice number 13501 of November 4,2022, the Assembly urges the Members to adjourn this house until February 14, 2023,” the Majority leader said.

The Motion was seconded by the Deputy Leader of Majority Party at the County Assembly of Kisumu Patrick Lumumba Owade.

The Speaker of the County Assembly of Kisumu Elisha Jack Oraro opened the motion for the debate before the adjournment.

During the debate, Members of the County Assembly urged one another to go back to the wards they represent and reconnect with the electorates during the long recess.

“Mr Speaker, it is now time for us as Members of the County Assembly to go and reconnect with ours people after a rigorous three months’ work at the County Assembly,” says Nereah Okombo, the Deputy Speaker and the MCA representing Manyatta B ward.

Speaker Elisha Jack Oraro reminded the Members of the Committees within the County Assembly who have the pending works and assignments in regards to the various statements sought by some members on some issues to work on them and bring the report back to the Assembly.

He says one such committee is the one of the Budget that is currently working on the Finance Bill which he says is very critical in the Revenue Collection.
