Kuppet tells TSC to get sh 15B from Govt for Teachers’ promotion
The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers has told the Teachers Service Commission to seek for shs 15 Billion from the National Treasury for the Promotion of more teachers across the country.
Kuppet Assistant National Treasurer Ronald Tonui says the Government should be ready to release sh 15 billion that will cater for the promotion of more teachers in various parts of the country.
Speaking in Kisumu during the official opening of the Bomet County Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association Conference, the Kuppet Assistant National Treasurer says the recent promotion of 36,000 teachers across the country by the Teachers Services Commission is a drop in the ocean.
He says Teachers Service Commission shortlisted 179,000 to be interviewed, adding that the number of teachers who were promoted after the interview was very small.
Tonui has asked the Teachers Service Commission to ask for more funding to help in the promotion of more teachers across the country, adding that the sh 2 billion that was allocated to them from the National Treasury is not enough.
“We are amazed that the TSC asked the National Treasury to allocate them only shs 2Billion for promoting teachers across the country and this can only promote 5,000 teachers. We are telling them to ask for more funding of about 15 billion for teachers’ promotion,” Tonui says.
He says Kuppet and other stakeholders will push and lobby to ensure that more funding is allocated for the promotion of more teachers.
He says teachers who consider remaining in class to teach until they retire should also be promoted based on their performance hence CBG should be re-looked into.
At the same time, the Government should re-look into the issues of domiciling Junior Secondary schools in Primary schools, adding that the JSS should be in secondary schools across the country.
He says there is no Junior and Senior Secondary school in the country according to the constitution of Kenya that places the Secondary schools under the national Government.
Tonui says the isssue of retirement age should not be re-adjusted and should remain at 60.
