Call for a united Luo Nation as ODM convenes
Mega Rally in Kisumu
The Luo
Community has been urged to remain united before, during and after the next
year’s polls.
The Call
for the Luo Community rented the air as speaker after speaker during the today’s
ODM Mega Rally spoke passionately about the need for the community to remain
united as left by the departed Party Leader Raila Odinga.
Addressing
a mammoth crowd at Kisumu’s Kirembe Grounds, ODM National Chairman Gladys Wanga
fire the first salvo for the importance of the community to remain as one.
Wanga
underscored the need for true unity, adding that the spirit of disunity must be
shunned at all cost.
She says
the community is there in ODM Party to stay, adding that plans are underway to
fully strengthen it ahead of next year’s polls for proper negotiations with the
like-minded political parties including the ruling UDA Party.
Wanga says
they are rooting for two terms for President William Ruto’s re-election during
the next year’s general elections.
The ODM
Party National Chairperson says previous regimes cheated them as a community,
adding that the current regime is the only one that has fully considered the
Luo Community through the Broad Based Government under President William Ruto
Wanga has
faulted the Opposition claiming that it has no focus with the clear agenda for
the country.
She has
urged the other faction of the ODM Party who has rebelled to make a come-back to
the party with an aim of strengthening it ahead of next year’s polls.
ODM Party
Leader Dr Oburu Oginga says the Party
must remain strong ahead of next year’s general election slated for August.
Oburu says
he does not want disunity within the ODM Party, adding that he is really
working smart to ensure that it remain united before, during and after the next
year’s polls.
Oburu has
defended himself being the ODM Party leader, adding that he did not elect
himself in that position but was proposed and seconded by both his two Deputies
Simba Arati and Abdulswamad Nassir.
“I don’t want
disunity in the ODM Party and if I realize that I can be the one who can cause
disunity then I am ready to relinquish the party leader position,” Dr. Oburu
says.
Both the
Deputy Party leaders Simba Arati and the Party’s Acting Secretary General Catherine
Omanyo have underscored the need for the party to remain fully united under Dr
Oburu as its leader.
Kisumu
Governor Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o says supporting President Ruto for his second and
final term in office is not the main issue, adding that the issue is whether the
current regime does the right things to the people of Kenya.
He underscores
the need for provision of firm foundation for the development across the
country.
Nyong’o
says strong political parties normally form governments, adding that there is
need to fully build ODM as a stronger political party with an aim of capturing
power.
