Education CS told to be fully in charge and
address schools unrest
The Cabinet
Secretary in charge of Education has been told to be fully in charge of the
Ministry.
Former
President of the East African Law Society James Aggrey Mwamu says the Education
Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba must assert his feet and ensure that he
is fully in charge of the Ministry.
Addressing
the press at his office in Kisumu, Mwamu said the Cabinet Secretary must come
out as the face of the Government on the issue of the ongoing strikes in the
schools countrywide.
He has
accused the CS of been overshadowed by his immediate former Principal Secretary
Prof. Julius Bitok who has since been moved to the State Department of Tourism.
Mwamu says
the PS’s sentiment on the need by schools’ administration to negotiate with
learners on whether they want to do exams or not was very much out of order and
should not have come out from a person of his caliber.
He says the
schools’ Principals should engage all the stakeholders in the Education Sector to
see away on how to tackle the students’ strike that has affected many schools
across the country.
“The
schools’ administration should engage various stakeholders including parents,
Knut, Kuppet, Ministry of Education, students among other through a dialogue so
as to see a way out of the issues that currently affects various schools across
the country,” Mwamu says.
Mwamu says
the schools administrations should do this so as to get the root cause of these
problems in various schools.
“This is a
societal problem and all the stakeholders should be engaged in a meaningful
manner and get the root cause of this problem,”Mwamu adds.
Mwamu has
strongly lauded a section of schools across the country where students have
come out strongly to condemn the ongoing students’ unrest that has resulted to
closure of some schools across the country.
He has
particularly singled out Migori Boys High school for being brave and courageous
in condemning students’ unrests.
Mwamu has
urged students not to engage in any act of lawlessness such like burning down
of schools, adding that this is not the best way to solve their grievances.
