Political Parties funding delay is not intentional, says registrar

The Delay in disbursing the Political Parties funding is not intentional at all, the office of the Registrar of Political Parties has said.

The Registrar of Political Parties John Cox Lorionokou says since he got into office in October last year, the office has been making requisition for the Political Parties funding to the National Treasury just as they make request for the funds the office uses in a given financial  year.

Addressing the press in Kisumu today during an introductory meeting with Kisumu County Political Parties Leaders and other stakeholders, the Registrar of Political Parties said once the requests for political parties funds are approved by the National Treasury then his office will disburse them immediately to the various registered political parties.

Lorionokou says the funds are disbursed quarterly, adding that currently there are a total of 96 registered political parties across the country.

He adds that there are 30 Political Parties which are waiting in the process of registration.

The Registrar of Political Parties says Political Parties should be founded on the issue of National Values and Principles as well as on good Governance.

He adds that the issue of inclusion should also be within the various political parties, adding that his office is working with various political parties to strengthen their organs.

He says the issue of honesty and patriotism should also be enhanced, adding that the issue of dishonesty has been one of the problem the country faces.

Various stakeholders have challenged the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties to have a constructive dialogue with various political parties across the country.
