2000 youth and women targeted in KBL Vocational Training Countrywide.
THE Kenya Breweries Limited is targeting 2000 women and
youth in its ambitious vocational training session countrywide.
The training is part of the project Heshima that aims at
providing vocational training to women and youth who are at risk of falling
prey to illicit brew consumption and production.
Speaking during the official launch of the program in Kisumu
on Tuesday this week, Head of Sustainability at Kenya Breweries Jean
Kiarie-Ngumo said the project will be rolled out in ten counties of Nairobi,
Kwale, Kiambu, Muranga, Nakuru, Makueni, Homa Bay, Migori and Kisumu.
Ngumo says KBL target these counties because they are highly
susceptible to illegal, informal and illicit trade in alcohol.
“Our objective is to equipe the youth with practical skills
that will enable them to earn a decent living through productive and dignified
work,” Ngumo says.
Ngumo says project Heshima is in line with their agenda to
grow value together by economically empowering those most vulnerable in the
communities.
“We believe in self-sufficiency as the key to ensuring the
youth and women keep off the trade of illegal brews,” Ngumo adds.
Ngumo further says that the KBL management has also met with
the local administration within Kisumu County to discuss how they can partner
together so as to empower women and youth as a means to combating the illicit
brews menace in Kisumu county.
Ngumo adds that they will also partner with members of the
local administration at the grass root level in other counties earmarked for
the program so as to empower women and youth as a means to combating the
illicit brews menace within those counties.
Ngumo also says KBL in partnership with their mobilization
partner, the Africa Initiative for Rural Development {AIRD}, strongly believe
that project Heshima will complement the various programs already being
implemented by the national and County Government to fight illicit brews.
