Protests in Kisumu over Miguna’s
whereabouts.
HUNDREDS
of Kisumu City residents have poured into streets while protesting wanting to
know the whereabouts of the National Resistance Movement self-Proclaimed
General Miguna Miguna.
The
protestors barricaded some routes towards the City Center especially along
Kisumu-Kakamega Road near Kondele area where they had lit some bonfire before
moving towards the central business District.
The
protestors who were led by the Kisumu County Assembly Speaker Onyango Oloo and
Market/Mlimani ward MCA Seth Ochieng Kanga chanted slogans of No Miguna No
peace.
The
protestors forced the operators of various businesses to abruptly close their
shops while wanting them to join them in the protests.
“We
are busy protesting against the whereabouts of our NRM General Miguna Miguna
but you are busy going about your businesses,”
one of the protestors was heard lamenting.
They
protested up to the City center following Jomo Kenyatta Highway then to Oginga
Odinga Street before Kisumu County Assembly Speaker addressed them.
Oloo
says the government must release Miguna unconditionally without any further
delay.
Oloo
says the Government should not continue to hold Miguna in the police cells
without producing him in a court as ordered by the High Court Judge.
“We
demand that the jubilee Government release Miguna Miguna unconditionally,” he
says.
Oloo
adds the Jubilee Government should not select a few Nasa leaders for arrests
but should arrest all its supporters over the recent swearing-in of its leader
Raila Odinga last Tuesday.
“They
should not select only a few leaders in opposition for arrests but should
consider arresting all of us as supporters of Nasa Coalition.
He
says the Country might be ungovernable if the jubilee government continue to do
things with a lot of impunity and fail to follow the rule of law.
“When
the people takes control of their affairs then they have a right to refuse
unjust laws,”Oloo adds.
Oloo
tells off the United States Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec to stop forthwith
from meddling into the country’s affairs.
He
says Kenya is a sovereign state which governs itself and no country like United
States through its ambassador in the country should tell how it is governed.
“Foreign
countries who are supporting the Jubilee regime should leave us alone to
conduct our affairs and they should stop meddling into our affairs. We do not
allow the neo-colonialism to be here with us again,”he further adds.
The protesters engaged the police i a running battle for several hours as police lobbed tear gas canisters to disperse unruly protesters.
Police were also forced to fire live bullets in the air to disperse the protesters.
