Pupils protest over grabbing of their 18 acres land in Kisumu.

PUPILS of Victoria Primary in KISUMU Central Sub-County have today taken to
streets within KISUMU city to protest about grabbing of the school land
totaling to 18 acres.

The pupils protested against the move by some private developers to grab
the land situated in Kisumu  Dago near SOS Children's Home within KISUMU
West Sub-County.

A former PS during the Grand Coalition Government is said to have been
behind land grabbing claim.

They pupils who were accompanied by some parents carried placards and
peacefully protested up to the Lands offices within Ksm City where they
demanded to be addressed by the officials.

At the Ministry of Lands offices,no officer came out to address the pupils
since the offices were tightly locked.

They then resorted to move to the Kisumu Central Sub-County offices where
they demanded to be addressed by the Deputy County Commissioner Mr.Tom
Macheneri.

Macheneri  who addressed the pupils togwther with the parents has assured
them that the matter is being investigated.

He has urged the pupils to remain calm as his office is following it up.

He says if it can be found that the public land belonging to the school was
sold to private developers fraudulently then it will be reverted back to
the school without any further delay.

"I want to assure the pupils that if it is discovered that their school
land was fraudulently sold to some private developers then it will be given
back to the school," Macheneri  says.

Mlimani Market ward MCA Seth Ochieng Kanga has urged the various agencies
to investigate the matter and ensure the land is given back to the school.

The pupils and parents of Victoria Primary school have vowed to join in
many peaceful protests until the institution get back its land.
