A Total of 30 Members of the County Assembly of Homa Bay
have dismissed a ploy by a section of their colleagues whom they have accused
of holding an election to replace both majority leader and the deputy.
Led by Kanyamwa/Kosewe Ward Representative Nicholas Owaka,
the MCAs claim that the Orange Democratic Movement {ODM} party headquarter had
cancelled the election where some 29 MCAs are purported to have held yesterday
at the County Assembly of Homa Bay and replace the current majority and his deputy.
Addressing the press in Kisumu, the MCAs said as far as they
are concerned, there is no election held to replace the two leaders at their
county assembly.
Owaka who is also the Chairman of the Budget Committee at
the county Assembly of Homa Bay says they are waiting for directions from their ODM Party
Secretariat on the issue of the election of leader of Majority and his deputy.
“We go by our ODM Party resolutions which called off the
election and still waiting for its direction on the same and can never go
against our party’s decision,” they say.
The MCAs says the unity of the County assembly of Homa Bay
is paramount, adding that they extend an olive branch to their colleagues who
seems to have grouped to other camp to come and work together as members of ODM
Party.
Majority Chief Whip Sophie Koweje says there is due
procedure to follow when the MCAs want to remove the leadership of the
Political party at the Assembly.
“Like in our case, as ODM Party members we must hold a
meeting a minutes taken with reasons as to why we want to remove the leadership
at the county assembly. We have never held such a meeting and we do not have
minutes hence the election purported to have been conducted at the County
Assembly of Homa Bay to replace the Majority leader and his deputy is not
there,” Koweje says.
She claims that after the purported election by their
colleagues who are opposed to the current majority leader, they went and broke
the offices to gain entry.
“We are for unity as Members of ODM party representing the
people at the County Assembly of Homa Bay and urge our colleagues to join us in
doing this,” Koweje adds.
