DRAMA unfolded at
Nyanza Regional Directorate Criminal Investigations offices in Kisumu when
Migori Governor Zachary Okoth Obado was grilled for nearly seven Hours after
over the death to the of Rongo University Student Sharon Otieno.
The Migori Governor was interrogated at the Nyanza Regional
DCI offices after his arrival at the offices as from around 10:00 am to nearly
5:30 pm on Tuesday.
The Media literally camped at the venue where the Migori
Governor was being questioned over the death of Miss Otieno who was brutally
murdered last week and her body dumped at Owade area near Wire Forest.
While a section of the media rushed to Homa Bay town where
Obado’s Personal Assistant Michael Oyamo was to be taken to court to be
charged, majority remained while camping at the Nyanza regional DCI offices
where grilling of Governor Obado went on for several hours.
Oyamo was later brought to the same venue under tight
security where he stayed till the grilling of his boss was concluded and was
later driven to unknown destination by the detectives.
Also brought under tight security was Barrack Oduor ,a
journalist with the Nation Media Group who was together abducted with Sharon
Otieno last Monday.
Sharon Otieno was later found murdered and her body dumped in
a thicket near Oyugis Market and an Autopsy which has been conducted by the
Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Jansen Oduor has indicated that Miss Otieno
died as a result of excessive bleeding.
Drama later unfolded when the journalists who wanted to take
the Migori Governor’s pictures after being grilled were barred from taking such
photos but braved the situation and took the photos while the Governor was being
whisked away to unknown place.
Journalists had to play hide and seek games with the police
officers who did not want them to take photos of the governor who was reportedly
being sneaked out of the Regional Police Headquarters.
Police had to whisk away the embattled governor through a
back door and ushered him into a GK car which sped off to unknown destination
with speculations that he was rushed to the Kisumu International airport and
later taken to Nairobi for further interrogations.
Obado’s lawyer Cliff Ombeta who addressed the press
immediately after Obado's grilling confirmed that his client was under grilling by detectives but was quick to
deny that the Migori Governor has been arrested and being detained for more
questioning over the matter.
He said his client is innocent, adding that people should
stop a lot of speculations.
Nyanza Directorate Criminal Investigations Coordinator
Michael Barasa did not address the press on the matter despite being seen
leaving his office by around midday.
