The Government’s major focus is welfare of Police, Says Matiangi.

The National Government has a serious focus on the Welfare of all Police officers across the country, Interior and National Government Coordination Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has said.

The Cabinet Secretary says the Government has also embarked a serious program to adequately equip the National Police service across the country.

He says this will enable the police to do their work effectively and efficiently.

Addressing senior Police officers from Nyanza region when he met them at the Nyanza regional Police Headquarters this morning on his way to Siaya County for a regional security meeting, Matiang’i says the Government is also determined to end problem of housing within the National Police Service.

He says the problem of Police Housing will be a thing of the past as it will be solved once and for all.

“The police housing will be solved once and for all as the Government is planning to House Police officers across the country with decent houses,” he says.

He says already the Government is building a serious partnership with Members of Parliament so that through the National Government CDF more police stations and facilities can be built across the country.

“Life will never be the same again on this issue of Police accommodation because we are going to sort it out completely so that police officers will be accommodated in a manner befitting the work they do,” he adds.

He says already the police Housing in Karatina and Kamkunji areas have been completed and will soon accommodate the officers working in those areas.

He adds that the Government is moving across the country to see stalled Police Housing projects with an aim of completing them.

Matiangi adds that the recent focus that has been there on the issue of police infrastructure has been a commendable one.

The Cabinet Secretary further says the Police will be given new vehicles by November this year to help ease their work in terms of mobility.

He says this will enable the police to move easily during their daily work.

“A new consignment of Police vehicles will arrive by November this year and we will give some to Nyanza region,” Matiangi further says.

He has commended Nyanza region for sometimes recording nil cases on crime incidences within the region, adding that this is attributed to the good work of the Police.

The Interior Cabinet Secretary says a new plan will soon be availed to intensify security within Lake Victoria waters.

Matiangi adds that this is done jointly with the Kenya Defense Force and other security organs so as to enhance security.

“Through this plan, we are going to deploy more security officers to intensify security within the Lake Victoria waters to make it more secure,” Matiangi further adds.
