Let's embrace
culture of borrowing and investing, Raila says.
FORMER Prime Minister Raila Odinga has urged residents of
Nyanza region to fully embrace the culture of borrowing and investing in
various business opportunities within the region.
Odinga says the culture of borrowing and investing in
various business opportunities have greatly helped people to prosper hence
urges the residents of Nyanza region to copy from people from other regions
within the republic.
Addressing a gathering during the official opening of
UNAITAS Sacco, Odinga this will be the surest way to deal with the issue of
poverty in this country.
Odinga says the people of the Nyanza region are really hard
working and can borrow and invest in various business opportunities.
“This is why I have come here and officiate the opening of
UNAITAS Sacco in Kisumu because our people are hardworking and can invest,”
Odinga says.
He says if Saccos can offer proper services then the people
will be ready to have the services offered.
Odinga says the mentality that people cannot save because
they are poor should be shun at all cost.
“We want our people to save and invest here because we want
to deal with the vicious circle of poverty in our area,” Odinga adds.
Odinga says such vicious circle can be reversed and the
lives of people can change through borrowing and investing in various business
opportunities.
“We are poor therefore we cannot save. We cannot save
therefore we cannot invest and we cannot invest therefore we are poor and there
is no development in our areas. This vicious circle can be reversed,” Raila
adds.
Odinga says Saccos offers good opportunities of saving and
borrowing hence should be embraced fully for the development in the regions.
“I have come with UNAITAS in Kisumu here and I strongly
challenge our people to do same in our area here,” he adds.
He says the building bridges initiative will surely help in
bringing a new chapter in terms of development in the various parts of the
country.
On the issue of the 8 percent VAT on fuel products, Odinga
says the country was headed to a wrong direction and this was the only way to
save it from getting revenue.
He adds that President Uhuru was stuck on the issue and
needed help hence offered help on a condition that wastage on public funds must
not be there.
He further says that the issue of corruption affecting the
country must be addressed so that no public money is lost through corruption.
