County Government of Kisumu told to increase stipend given to Community nurses

THE County government of Kisumu has been urged to consider increasing the stipend given to the Community Health Volunteers within the County.

President of Mwalimu James Japheth Mwamu Foundation says the stipend given to the Community Health Volunteers is not enough with the work they are doing to serve the Members of the Community.

Speaking in Kolwa Central within Kisumu East when the Foundation visited the CHVs and donated Covid-19 kits like face masks and Sanitizers to help them in their work, Mwamu appealed to the County Government under the current Governor Prof Peter Anyang Nyong’o to take this into consideration.

“The Community Health Volunteers working within various parts of Kisumu County do a lot of work and this is very vital to the community in terms of serving the people on matters of their health at the ground level hence there is need to consider increasing their stipend from the County Government of Kisumu,” Mwamu says

Mwamu at the same time says there is need by the County government to ensure that the NHIF cover is cascaded to the ground to cover many residents of the county as most of them are not covered under the scheme.

He says it should be a replica of what is happening in Mombasa County where the county government of Mombasa is reaching people at the grass root level with such services.

Speaking during the event, the more than 50 Community Health Volunteers praised the move by the Foundation and thanked it for such a good gesture.
