Govt embarks on giving over 90,000 land title deeds in Kisumu

THE National Government has embarked on a mission to give over 90,000 land title deeds to various residents of Kisumu County who owns land within.

Principal Secretary in charge of Information, Communication, Technology and Innovation Jerome Ochieng said the Government has embarked on a paln where it has begun to distribute land title deeds which will see Kisumu benefit from part of 1 million title deeds that were in the last one month produced to be given to land owners across the country.

Addressing the residents of Nyando, Muhoroni and Nyakach Sub-counties today at Ahero Multi-purpose where he led the distribution of title deeds to land owners in the three sub-counties, the PS said Kisumu will get 90,696 title deeds during such distribution.

He says so far the Government has distributed about 10,000 title deeds to residents of the seven sub-counties within Kisumu County.

The Principal Secretary says the Government will distribute about 300,000 title deeds in Kisumu, Siaya, Migori and Homa Bay counties during exercise targeting land owners within Nyanza region which is part of the 1 million title deeds that have been produced in the last one month.

“Nyanza region will receive 30 percent of the total of 1 million title deeds which is being distributed across the country on the orders of President Uhuru Kenyatta that land owners be give title deeds freely,” the PS says.

He has urged the residents of Kisumu County to use the land title deeds wisely so as to help them benefit immensely.

The PS further urges Chiefs and their assistants to ensure that the title deeds are properly managed.

Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang Nyong’o who also attended the occasion said getting a land title deed is a right of every Kenyan owning land genuinely.

A resident from Nyakach Sub-county who benefitted from the distribution Bernard Tawa Atumbo has thanked the National Government for such a gesture of providing them with the document.

He says he will now be able to plan his parcel of land well now that he has its title deed.
