Kisumu Residents protest high cost of living

A SECTION of Kisumu County residents have today staged a peaceful protest against what they have termed as high cost of living.

The residents begun their peaceful protest at Kondele area to the Kisumu Governor’s office at the Kisumu City Town Hall.

They carried utensils such as sufurias, spoons and plates among other to protest peacefully while asking President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Government to lower the cost of living which they have termed as a big burden to Kenyans.

The protest which has been led by human rights defenders has attracted a sizeable residents who have shown their displeasure on the high cost of living across the country.

They have appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta to lower the cost of essential commodities that Kenyans used mostly for their daily survival.

Led by human rights defender Boniface Ogutu Akatch says Kenyans are now suffering due to the sky rocketed prices of the essential commodities like maize flour, Sugar, cooking oil and rice among other which needs to be lowered for Kenyans to get some reprieve.

“We are asking the National Government to help Kenyans to lower the cost of living by reducing prices of essential commodities across the country. This is because Kenyans are suffering due to the high cost of living,” Akatch says.

The peaceful protestors also delivered a petition to the office of the Kisumu Governor and the Nyanza regional commissioner.

Their peaceful protest comes barely a few days after former President of East African Law Society Lawyer James Mwamu asked President Kenyatta to reduce the cost of living by lowering the prices of essential commodities for Kenyans.
