Nyanza Clergy to hold interdenominational
prayer for peaceful poll
MEMBERS of
the clergy from various denominations are set to hold an interdenominational
prayer early next month ahead of the General elections which is only a few days
away.
The Clergy
said it is very much in order to conduct prayers consisting of various
denominations across the region with an aim of asking the Almighty God to offer
peace during the electioneering period.
Led by the
Nyanza Council of Church Leaders Apostle Dr. Washington Ogonyo Ngede, Bishop
William Abuka and Arch Bishop Julius Otieno, the clergy have resolved to
conduct the prayers on August 4, only five days to the General Election on
August 9.
They say the
venue of the prayers and other details will be communicated later.
They say so
far various political candidates vying for various positions have been
conducting peaceful campaigns across the country while seeking for votes ahead
of the election.
“We take
this opportunity to express our deep gratitude to all the political candidates
and members of the public who support various candidates for the very peaceful
campaigns devoid of war and blood shade in our Nation of Kenya,” they say in a
press statement.
The clergy
have also thanked the security apparatus across the country and all other
stakeholders working towards a free, fair and peaceful General election.
The clergy under
the banner of “Azimio Clergy Network” who have declared their support towards
the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance Presidential Candidate Raila Odinga are
optimistic that he will win the Presidential race on August 9 poll.
