Youth told not to accept alcohol to cause electoral violence

THE Young people across the country have been urged to not be give alcohol and other substances to abuse in order to cause chaos during this electioneering period.

The National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse {NACADA} says it is quite unfortunate that some politicians engage the youth in alcohol and drug substance abuse where they end up causing mayhem during electioneering period like this.

Addressing the youth leaders in Kisumu County during a sensitization program on the importance of a peaceful election, the NACADA Chief Executive Officer Victor Okioma said the Authority is out to ensure that they sensitize the youth across the country so as not to engage in drug and other substance abuse to cause electoral violence across the country as the country heads to a general election next month.

Okioma has urged politicians not to engage the young in alcohol and other drug abuse in order to have a state of lawlessness before, during and after the election.

“We want the youth not to be misused by some politicians so as to give them alcohol and other drugs to abuse with an aim of causing electoral violence across the country as we approach the August 9 polls,” Okioma says.

The NACADA CEO says it is high time for politicians who have been sponsoring some youths to cause violence in their opponents’ rallies to stop such since those constitute to offence under the Elections Offences Act.

Okioma says it is important for the country to remain peaceful before, during and after the next month’s poll because it belongs to all Kenyans.

He says Kenyans should continue co-existing peacefully with one another before, during and after the forthcoming elections.

He adds that the youth should peace ambassadors across the country, saying that the country is gearing towards conducting an election free from violence.

A youth from Kisumu County Joshua Agiso says such training on violence free elections is very good for the youth across the country.

He says such trainings should be enhanced before, during and after the polls to ensure that the country is having an election which is violence free.

He urges the Government to constantly engage the young people in meaningful activities that will help them do some income generating activities to earn a living hence stop being idle.

Okioma says such  trainings have been held across the country and will continue to ensure the youth embrace the aspect of being peaceful across the country.
