Nyong’o urges his opponents to engage on issue based politics

Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang Nyong’o has urged his opponents for the gubernatorial seat to avoid propaganda and engage in issue based politics during this campaign period ahead of next month’s General elections.

Nyong’o says politicians seeking elective positions in the forthcoming elections to maintain decorum and avoid propaganda that could disrupt peace during this electioneering period.

Through a press statement to newsrooms today from the Chief Officer Information and Public Communications John Oywa, Nyong’o said candidates should sell their policies and tell the people why they want to be elected.

He says it is unfortunate that some candidates are instead adopting weird and unacceptable campaigns aimed at causing strife across Kisumu County.

“We are aware that there is a small group of disgruntled individuals in Kisumu County bent on disrupting peace and development for our people under the guise of campaigning for a gubernatorial candidate who has no development record,” Reads part of the statement

He says such a group engages in spreading dangerous rumours and lies aimed at undermining the work of the County Government of Kisumu.

“Unfortunately for them, this government, through its development record, has earned the admiration and respect of the people of Kisumu that no amount of lies will shake their confidence in the leadership of the Nyong'o Government,” the statement adds.

Nyong’o has appealed to them to repent early enough to join the winning team and has urged Kisumu County electorates to elect him for second and final term in office to continue with the work.

“We remain focused and committed to a peaceful campaign because we know that the People need development and not malicious propaganda, lies and disruption of public gatherings,” the statement further say.
