Ruto told to honour pledges made to youth
President Dr William Ruto has been told to fulfil pledges he made to the youth when campaigning to be elected as President.
The Green Congress of Kenya Party (GCK) Leader Hillary Alila says problems affecting the youth such as unemployment and drug abuse have not fully been addressed and can no longer be swept under the carpet.
Speaking after announcing a countrywide programme targeting young people, Alila said creation of opportunities for the youth will lower cost of living which is currently burdening Kenyans.
“For Kenyans to appreciate efforts made by the government to improve the economy, the president should renew his commitment in fulfilling pledges he made to the youth because young people are the backbone of the country,” Alila says.
Alila wants the Kenya Kwanza administration to prioritize on lowering the high cost of living and to offer a rapid solution to the unemployment problem which is affecting young people mostly.
He argues that the current taxes in the country are overburdening and making Kenyans feel disillusioned.
Alila urges the government to reduce taxes because the high cost of living has affected productivity of businesses and earnings of salaried Kenyans.
He adds that the GCK party is not confined by rigid ideologies or partisan boundaries, instead, he added that the party is defined by the determination of the members to put the interests of the citizens first.
“Our goal, which is clear, is to strengthen our party and lay the groundwork for a coalition that will propel us into government,” Alila further says.
He explains that the next generation of voters is diverse, forward-thinking and hungry for change, adding that party now seeks a government that is nimble, dynamic, and in tune with the challenges that require innovative solutions.
“We welcome fresh ideas from all walks of life because this is the power of unity that can help us overcome the divisive politics of the past and focus on the common good,” says Alila while reiterating that the party stands for good governance, economic prosperity, social justice, and a sustainable future.
President William Ruto has promised to lower the cost of living alongside other costs burdening Kenyans.
According to the head of state, the cost of housing is a heavy burden to the majority of Kenyans and is the major factor driving the proliferation of slums.
The government is committed to make housing more affordable, enable more Kenyans to live in safe and dignified homes and create millions of jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Alila who is the immediate former chairman of the Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC) took over from Martin Ogindo as the party leader.
The former Rangwe MP who has been leader of the party since its inception stepped down after he joined President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
Other officials in the party include Deputy Party Leader Vincent Willis Omuono and National Chairperson Thomas Mariwa, among others. President Ruto appointed Ogindo for the position of Chairperson of the Kenya Fish Marketing Authority (KFMA).
