Two Organizations donates items to flood victims in Ksm
TWO Organization have donated food and other items to victims of floods within Kakola Ombaka area of Nyando Constituency in Kisumu County.
The two organizations namely Gifted Heart and Hope Foundation and Alhamdulilahi Community Based Organization have donated the items worth shs 400,000 to the residents of Kakola Ombaka area who have been affected by the floods following the heavy rains received since mid October this year.
About 185 households have been camping at Nyamasao Primary school within the area for the last two and half months after floods marooned their homes rendering them homeless.
Speaking during the donation of food and other items, Kennedy Odongo the Director of Gifted Heart and Hope Foundation said they have decided to donate the relief for food and other items to the people who have been affected by the flood in Kakola Ombaka area as this is one of its major areas.
The Director says they have donated the items after the organization did an assessment on the situation at the ground.
“These people have been here for the last two months and we saw it wise not to wait for any other person but to help them mitigate their problem as a result of the floods that have greatly affected them,” he says.
He says they are just providing a temporary solution, adding that a permanent and lasting solution to the flooding within the area should be found.
Treasurer of the Alhamdulilahi Community Based Organization Deko Mohamed says they have collaborated with the Gifted hearts and Hope Foundation to donate the food and other items to the victims of the flood.
He says they are out to serve the humanity, adding that they have visited various places like prisons to donate items to the inmates.
Chairperson Disaster Management Mary Nyamondo says a permanent solution should be found on the issue of flooding within the area.
She says since 2019 during the water back flow, they have experienced flooding and they have never known peace.
Nyamondo says the both the National and County Government of Kisumu should construct a dyke for them so as to help in the full control of the flood menace within the area.
She adds that this will be good move and will greatly help in controlling the floods, adding that they are not able to do the farming they used to carry out within the area.
