Supporting Quality Education is my legacy- Muhoroni MP
A Member of Parliament has vowed that his greatest legacy is to empower his constituents to pursue good and quality education.
Muhoroni Member of Parliament James Mathews Onyango K’Oyoo says he has initiated a number of development projects within the constituency since he election as a Member of Parliament for the area in 2013 and one of the most outstanding one is educating the needy but bright pupils from disadvantaged families.
Addressing residents of Muhoroni and Guests during the Sixth Annual Education Retreat at Chemelil Sugar Academy, the Muhoroni Member of Parliament said he has managed to initiate the program of offering full scholarship program to pupils who qualify to join National schools and students admitted directly to universities through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services{KUCCPS} to pursue engineering, Medicine, Architecture, law and other technical courses.
He says since the inception of the program in the year 2014, a total of 206 students have benefitted from the full scholarship university education to pursue engineering, Medicine, Architecture, Law and Actuarial Science courses in various universities.
The Muhoroni Member of Parliament says this program is intended to increase the number of professionals within the constituency and it has begun bearing fruits as some of the beneficiaries have graduated and now working and has begun to give back to the society.
K’Oyoo says under the National schools full scholarship program, a total of 548 students have benefitted from the program since the year 2015.
The legislator says out of this number,227 students have sat for KCSE exams and have since joined various universities, tertiary institutions and colleges.
“Those who have been selected for this full secondary school scholarship program are from public primary schools within Muhoroni constituency and are directly admitted to the various national schools across the country,” K’Oyoo says.
A number of residents have indeed confirmed that their Member of Parliament is really turning the plight of the less fortunate people within the constituency by fully supporting quality education from secondary to the university level.
Chief of the Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla who was the chief guest during the event says he has really been impressed by what the Muhoroni Member of Parliament has done towards fully supporting quality education.
Ogolla has advised students who have been offered the full scholarship program from Secondary to university Education to sacrifice a lot in order to succeed in life.
He says some of the lessons he has learnt as a person who came from a very disadvantaged background is to respect people regardless of their statuses in the society and to sacrifice while pursuing a goal in life.
