THE County Government of Kisumu has purchased a new state of art water drilling equipment at shs 59 Million.
Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma has said the equipment will greatly help in the drilling of water boreholes in areas with serious water problems within the county.
Ranguma says the machine is capable in drilling up to 360 Meters to get water from the Ground, adding that it has three units including a tester.
Addressing the press in Kisumu after officially launching the machine, Ranguma said various parts of Kisumu County has been experiencing problems with water.
Ranguma says areas like parts of Nyando especially in Awasi area, parts of Seme, Nyakach and parts of Kisumo have been experiencing this problem.
He says parts of Kisumu East also has problems with water and this will now be solved with the use of the new equipment.
He says they have acquired the equipment so as to enable the residents to have water provided for them adequately.
“We want our people to have enough water throughout wherever there are within the various parts of the county,” he says.
Ranguma says water from wells will not last for long, adding that the county Government will seek for a lasting solution to give permanent water to the residents.
“We are also planning to provide a permanent solution to this problem within the various parts of the county by providing piped water to every village,” he adds.
Ranguma says the upcoming Kombewa-Maseno water Project will provide a long term solution to the perennial water problems in parts of the county.
He says plans are under way to ensure the Kisumu Water and Sewerage Company {KIWASCO} gets water from River Yala in Siaya County which will provide a permanent water solution to people of Seme, Kisumo at Lower Kadongo.
The Governor adds that there are also plans to expand Kajulu water treatment to accommodate the water which will be acquired from River Yala.
Ranguma says plans are also underway to develop a dam at Katuk Odeyo in Nyakach Sub-County where there will also be treatment plant.
“The Dam at Katuk Odeyo will provide water used for irrigation purposes and some will be treated for drinking by the residents there,” Ranguma further adds.
