IEBC set date for nomination exercise as official campaigns kicks off next Sunday.

THE Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission {IEBC} has set dates for carrying out the nomination exercise across the country including Kisumu County.

In Kisumu County, the poll body has set the nomination  date to be as from this May 28 when various people aspiring to be elected in various seats will present their nomination papers in readiness for the August 8 General Election.

Speaking at Tom Mboya Labour College on Tuesday during a pre-nomination meeting held with various political aspirants in Kisumu County, IEBC Kisumu County Returning Officer John Cox Lorionokou said various aspirants will present their nomination papers on diverse dates as from this May 28.

He says those aspiring to  be elected leaders at the county level will present their nomination papers in a different venue with those aspiring to be Members of Parliament and Members of the County Assembly.
The County Returning Officer says aspiring MCAs will present their nomination papers as from May 28 to 31 this year.

He also adds that aspiring senators will present theirs on May 28 and 29 while aspiring women representative will do so on May 30 and 31.

Aspiring Members of Parliament will present their nomination papers on June 1 and 2 the same day all aspiring Governors both sponsored by political parties and independent aspirants will present theirs.

The officer says the Nomination Papers must be accompanied by the nomination fees as prescribed by the commission.

He urges all the aspirants to strictly observe the electoral code of conduct which they will sign before the official kick off of the political campaigns within the county.

He also asks all the independent candidates to have a function physical address where their offices are.
He has assured the aspirants and the public in general that the commission will deliver a free, fair and transparent election in Kisumu County under his watch as the County Returning Officer.

“I want to assure you that there will be peaceful elections in Kisumu County and this will be used as an example in the entire country,” he says.
