ODM OFFICIALS WANT NEB TO GIVE DIRECT NOMINATION IN KISUMU CENTRAL.

SIX Orange Democratic Movement [ODM] Party officials in Kisumu Central Constituency now want the party’s National Elections Board to award a direct nomination to any of the candidates who has contested in the primaries and is suitable for the seat.

The six led by George Anayo, the ODM Party chairman from Kondele Ward says there is very little time left so as to beat the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s {IEBC} deadline in submitting the names of the candidates from the party.

Other ODM Party Ward chairmen are Nehemiah Okello from Migosi Ward, Malaki Sigu from Market/Mlimani Ward, Jeremiah Majanga from Nyalenda B Ward, John Ochieng and Elly Sili from Railways and Kaloleni/Shauri Moyo wards respectively.

Speaking in Kisumu , the ODM Party wad Chairmen argues that the recent developments in which the High Court last Friday ordered the Party to repeat the nomination process have left them a worried lot.

They say that this may end up with another litigious contest that will ultimately lead to the ODM Party missing the deadline for fielding a candidate in Kisumu Central Constituency.

They also argue that the repeat of the ODM nomination process within the said constituency which is slated for tomorrow will be held in polling stations which are mostly schools and will be very much operational on the material day.

“The time frame for vetting and selecting election officials to oversee this process again is very limited and may serve as a basis for further legal challenges,” they say.

They are also of the opinion that the Kisumu County ODM Elections Panel that barely had time to settle before the last primaries is very limited in resources, time and preparations for the repeat of the exercise.

The six ODM party ward chairmen also argue that the repeat of the exercise may fall victim to manipulation from its rivals due to its isolated nature.

“As chairmen, we have received numerous complaints from voters within the constituency about the timing and manner of the organization surrounding the exercise,” they add.

They further say they have full confidence in the NEB and believe it can give the Kisumu Central Constituents a non-polarizing yet a popular candidate who has clean record and has stood firm with the party.

The High Court last Friday ordered for a repeat of the ODM Party nomination exercise in Kisumu Central constituency within 72 hours after it found out that the previous exercise was marred with irregularities.

This was after the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal earlier ruled that the ODM party issue the current Kisumu Central MP Ken Obura with nomination certificate but the ruling was challenged before the High Court which last Friday ordered for a repeat of the exercise.
