IEBC training disrupted as Police investigate Kisumu Senator for alleged disruption.

A TRAINING session by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission for Presiding and Deputy Presiding officers has been disrupted this morning at the Nyanza regional Headquarters as police now embarks investigation linking Kisumu County Senator Fred Outa for allegedly being behind the disruption of the exercise.

The training session which was being carried out behind the New Nyanza Regional Headquarters that also houses the Kisumu County Governor's office was largely disrupted by a group of youth who got the wind that it was ongoing.

Nyanza Regional Coordinator Wilson Njega says they are investigating Kisumu County Senator Fred Outa for allegedly leading the youth who disrupted the exercise meant for training the POs and DPOs for Kisumu Central Constituency so as to be IEBC temporary officials for the repeat Presidential polls next week on October 26.

Njega who has refused to divulge more details on investigating Outa for allegedly leading the youth who disrupted the exercise said the matter is now in the hand of the police.

Njega says the Government will not allow anybody to disrupt the ongoing trainings of those who are going to be hired by IEBC for the repeat presidential polls.

“We are not going to allow anybody to disrupt a legal training by a constitutionally mandated body at all cost,” Njega says.

He says they will ensure that the IEBC training for their temporary staffs will go on as schedule and will not allow politicians to interfere with it.

“Nobody has the right to stop a body legally constituted by law to conduct its training,” he adds.
Njega says already ten people have been arrested in connection with the disruption of a similar training yesterday at Awasi in Nyando Constituency.

He says more arrests will be made and those who are responsible for the disruption of the exercise will be brought to book.

He says nobody will be allowed to gain entry into the IEBC training sessions unless they have been invited for such training.

Njega has assured those who are being trained as IEBC officials for the elections their safety and security during the training session but was not able to answer a question from Journalist who wanted to know whether the police will be able to provide security to the people being trained by IEBC when they go back home.

Kisumu County Senator Fred Outa could not be reached for comments on the allegation.
During the incident at the Nyanza Regional Headquarters, Tents which were already erected for the exercise were pulled down as the trainees and trainers of IEBC ran for their dear lives.

The dreaded Quick Response Team from the Administration Police combed the area but the exercise did not proceed at the venue.

A similar training is also said to have been disrupted in Nyamasaria area where the IEBC was training POs and DPOs for Kisumu East Constituency.

Njega’s sentiments comes barely a few days after a section of leaders from Nyanza region and other Nasa Coalition strongholds vowed not to take part in the forth-coming repeat presidential polls next week after the Coalition’s Presidential candidate Raila Odinga pulled out of the race citing  failure by the electoral body to agree with some of the electoral reforms the coalition presented to IEBC which needed before the repeat of the polls.
