We need more investments in Kisumu County, Governor Nyong’o says.

Kisumu County Governor Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o has said the county needs more investments for it to grow more economically.

Nyong’o says the county has very many investments opportunities hence investors should be encouraged to come and do investments within the various parts of the county.

Speaking during a meeting with members of the Business community in Kisumu city together with the County Security Team, Governor Nyong’o said the various investments will be possible if peace and tranquility will be maintained.

He says already there is an investor who want put up heavy investment on Maritime transport on Lake Victoria and this is very good news for the county and the country at large.

“Kisumu County economy must move forward and more investments should be encouraged and this will be very much possible if peace and tranquility is maintained,” Governor Nyong’o says.

Nyong’o says the security of Kisumu city is very paramount and should be guaranteed for investments to be put within.

He says the County should not loose various investment opportunities due to insecurity issues which can be addressed.

On the issue of anti-IEBC demonstrations, Governor Nyong’o says the peaceful demos will be held as from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm as resolved during the meeting with the business community and the County security team.

He says the demos will be peaceful and to be conducted in accordance to the law, adding that the peaceful demonstrators will move from Kondele grounds to the regional IEBC offices then back to Kondele area after which people will go back to their businesses and jobs.

He urged the police not to use live bullets to disperse and kill peaceful demonstrators, adding that criminals who want to take advantage of the peaceful demos will not be tolerated at all cost.

“We want to continue holding peaceful demos against IEBC and I want to tell our people to observe the law while doing this and we are asking the police not to use live bullets to kill people who are demonstrating peacefully,” Nyong’o adds.

During the meeting, the Kisumu County police commander Titus Yoma came under scathing attack from a section of Kisumu City residents who have largely blamed him for not able to contain some anti-riot police officers who have since been accused of shooting and killing innocent people during the anti-IEBC demos.

Yoma in a swift rejoinder said he will be able talk to the police officers quelling the riots.
He has urged those demonstrating peacefully not to throw stones to police officers and the police stations during such demos.

The new Kisumu County Commissioner Pauline Dola has urged all the stakeholders to work together to ensure that Kisumu County is very much secure for various investments to be put.
