KCPE kicks off in Kisumu smoothly.
THIS year’s
Kenya Certificate of Primary Education has kicked off smoothly in a number of
schools within Kisumu City and its environs.
A spot check
by this writer shows that in a number of schools within the Kisumu city and its
environs, the Class eight national exams kicked off by 8:30am when the
candidates sat for their first paper which was Mathematics.
At MM Shah
Primary school in Kisumu City, the exams kicked off exactly 8:30am without any
hitch.
The school’s
Head Teacher Marcelus Okweya said a total of 189 candidates are sitting the
exams which will take three days up to Thursday this week.
He says out
of 189 candidates the school has presented this year for the KCPE exams, 103
are girls while 86 are boys.
He is
optimistic that the school will do well in this year’s KCPE Exams, adding that
they have adequately prepared the candidates to tackle the exams.
At Victoria
primary school within Kisumu City, the school’s Head Teacher Mr. Edward Omalla
said the national exams has kicked off so well in their school.
He says they
have a total of 138 candidates as compared to 103 candidates who sat the exams
last year.
He says the
school has tried to prepare its candidates for the exams well despite a number
of challenges which have emanated especially during the Anti-IEBC demos
witnessed recently.
"We have really tried to prepare our candidates who are now sitting the exams this year despite many challenges which have been witnessed including the Anti- IEBC demos because our school is right next to the IEBC regional offices. We hope to do well in this year's National exams," he says.
Victoria
Primary school is directly opposite the Nyanza regional IEBC offices which the
anti-IEBC protestors normally visited it during the demonstrations hence this
might have disrupted learning at the said institution.
In other schools within the county, the same exams kicked off smoothly without any major hitch.
