Activist on hunger strike now hospitalized in Kisumu but in a steady condition.

A HUMAN Rights' activist who has been on a hunger strike for the last
seven days have now been admitted into a health facility in Kisumu.

Boniface Ogutu  Akatch who has been at Kondele Roundabout since last
Thursday while on a hunger strike while claiming that he has not been
very  happy about how there has been violations on the constitution
especially on disobeying Court orders by some senior Government
officials has now been taken to Hospital.

A group known as Western Kenya Human Rights Network has taken the
initiative to take Akatch to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and
Referral Hospital where he is now admitted.

Addressing the press while being taken to the Ward at the hospital,
Akatch has said he has regained some strength and will be there for 24
hours being observed by health personnel.

“I have now regained some strength and I will be admitted here for
observation for 24 hours and thereafter I will wait what the doctors
will say before being discharged,” Akatch says.

Akatch says he took the initiative last week on Thursday so as to
undergo hunger strike for seven days claiming that there is trend that
has crept into the country where some senior people in the Government
have been out to violate the constitution.

“There is a trend which has started creeping in the country where
senior people in the Government have been openly violating the
constitution especially when some disobey court orders and this is not
right a t all hence I protested by going on a hunger strike for seven
days,” he adds.

He says he wanted to create awareness generally for the people of
Kenya to know that there are some senior who are out to disobey the
law, adding that his issue is not just about the deportation of Miguna
Miguna to Canada after being denied entry into the country despite
numerous court orders.

“My choice is not about Miguna Miguna alone but about the violation of
the law by some of those people in Authority and I chose hunger strike
to create an awareness about the violation by some people in the
Government who have started to violate the law and disobeying court
orders,” he adds.

Akatch says people must learn to stand by the rule of the law at all
times, adding that Kenyans have a right to protect, uphold and defend
the constitution of this republic.

“Nobody is above our constitution and if anybody is trying to violate
it then we are ready to defend it even with our lives,” he adds.

Efforts to talk to the Hospital’s management to confirm the admission
of Akatch proved futile as the press could not reach its Chief
Executive Officer Dr. Juliana Otieno who was away from her officer.

Her Deputy a Mr. Sewe whom some Journalists found in the office said
he could not address the press on the matter.
