Embrace the
culture of saving from more sources in Saccos, says Former CEO SASRA.
MEMBERS of the various Savings and Credit Cooperative
Societies have been urged to fully embrace the culture of saving more from
other sources into their Saccos.
Former Saccos Regulatory Authority {SASRA} Chief Executive
Officer Carilus Ademba says it is prudent if members of the Saccos start
engaging in ensuring that they make savings to their saccos other than from the
salaries.
Addressing members of the giant Kisumu Teachers {KITE} Sacco
Society Limited during its 40th Annual General Meeting held at
Kisumu’s Museum ground, Ademba told those saving in saccos to start making a
lot of sacrifice in order to make saving from other sources.
Ademba who is now the County Executive Committee {CEC}
Member in charge of Trade, Industrialization and Enterprise Development in County
Government of Homa Bay has urged the sacco members across the Country not to
only make saving from their salaries alone.
“I want to urge Sacco Members from various Saccos across the
country to start embracing the culture of saving from other sources of income
other than their salaries they earn after every month,” he says.
Ademba says by doing so, it will help in boosting the
savings from sacco members.
He says saving in Saccos must be done continually and it is
not a one month event, adding it requires total commitment and perseverance by
the members.
“Saving requires a lot that includes total commitment as
well as perseverance and it is not a one month event hence one must be ready to
do this over a long period of time.
He says only shs 3.5 billion has been saved in various
Saccos in Nyanza region, adding that this needs to be boosted so as to raise
the amount saved in Saccos in the region since nationally an estimated shs 800
billion has been saved in Saccos.
He adds that County Governments should also come up with
laws that protects and safeguard Cooperative movements within their Counties.
He adds that nationally, there is the Saccos Regulatory
Authority that regulates the activities of the Saccos and ensures that they
operate within the required law.
He urges those who are saving in saccos and those who want
to save to have total confidence.
Joseph Oganga, the Acting Chief officer the Department of
Enterprise Development, Energy and Industries has urged Sacco Members to have a
culture of saving and borrowing.
Oganga who is a former Chief Executive Officer of the Kisumu
Teachers Sacco Limited has urged its members to help in safeguarding the
interest of the Sacco for its steady growth.
He urges members of the various saccos within the county so
as to be able to stick to their Saccos.
“I want to urge Members of various Sacco to safeguard their
own home grown Saccos so as to be able to develop,” Oganga says.
Kisumu County Cooperative Officer Zepheniah Osok has advised
Members of the various Saccos within the County to help them develop, adding
that they should never talk ill of their own Saccos.
“Members of the Saccos should help in marketing their Saccos
for them to develop but should not talk ill of them and this may kill the
morale to develop,” Osok says.
