County governments urged to allocate land for industrial development.

VARIOUS County Governments across the country have been urged to allocate land for industrial development.

Cabinet Secretary in charge of Industrialization Adan Mohammed says by doing this it will be able to encourage those investors who want to put up their investments within the various counties.

Addressing the press after touring the Kenya Breweries in Kisumu which is currently under revival at an estimated cost of more than sh 15 billion, the Cabinet Secretary said the county Governments should be able to support private investment within their areas, adding that one of those ways is to avail land for industrial development.

He says the issue of land for investments has become a serious one hence hindering investments in counties.

“We want County Governments to offer full support for those who want to invest and should be able to support private sector and business investments in their counties,” he says.

He says the issue of land is also a major huddle that can hinder investors from coming to put up their investments in various counties.

“We urge various county Governments set aside land for industrial development. This is one of the major huddles that we hear from investments coming hence should be addressed,” he adds.

The Cabinet Secretary says business environment should also be friendly, adding that some of the taxes and levies charged between National and County Governments should be reconciled to make sure that business people are comfortable while doing businesses.

The CS adds that the revival of the Kisumu Breweries by a private investor at an estimated cost of more than 15 billion will create employment opportunities.

He says the investment will produce more than 100 million liters of senator Keg, adding that the investment will surely transform the region.

He adds that the Governments expect more 110,000 people will be able to benefit from the investment.

He says the revival of the breweries will be completed by July this year hence expects production to start immediately.

The CS says he has discussed various business opportunities with the County Government of Kisumu under Prof Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o so as to explore, adding that these include cotton farming, textile manufacturing among others.

Kisumu Governor Prof Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o says the revival of Kisumu Breweries will surely help in creation of employment opportunities.

He says farmers around are expected to provide sorghum which is the raw material for the production of the Senator Keg.

Nyong’o adds that the farmers are assured of the farm gate price when they bring their material to the new factory.

“This brewery is based on working with farmers within the region to grow millet or sorghum and provides it to the factory and they are assured of the farm gate price,” Nyong’o says.
