Join us in the fight against
corruption, Uhuru tells Kenyans.
PRESIDENT Uhuru Kenyatta has today reiterated his Government's
full commitment in the fight against corruption which has bedeviled the
country, asking Kenyans to come out and join the Government in the fight against
the vice.
Kenyatta says the fight against corruption in the country is
not a one person affair and all Kenyans should join to help the Government
fight the vice.
Addressing a huge gathering at Mamboleo Show Ground in
Kisumu today, President Kenyatta said the fight against corruption is not
targeting any individual, community, race, religion among others.
President Kenyatta who spoke only a day after Jamhuri Day celebrations in Nairobi where he said an all inconclusive National Conference on Corruption will be held early next year to come up with stringent measures to strengthen the fight against corruption, says the fight against the vice is heightened at all cost.
“We have said that all Kenyans should join us in the fight
against corruption because corruption is not about individual, Race, tribe,
religion,” he says.
He says action will be taken all the corrupt individuals regardless of whom they are within the society.
“If you walk to an area like Kondele in Kisumu and you find
a thief who has stolen a hen, do you people first ask him which tribe is he
from before you apply the law? President Kenyatta asks.
President Kenyatta says the era of the winner takes it all
if one forms a government is long, gone adding that the Government should
belong to all Kenyans but not a few individuals.
He adds that Kenyans needs development and this will only
happen is all politicians play politics of uniting the country for development
across the country.
He says politicians across the political divide should be
able to work freely across the country so as to sell their policies not on
tribal basis but on issues affecting Kenyans.
Kenyatta says the handshake between him and Opposition
Leader Raila Odinga is there to stay,
adding that a number of politicians have supported the initiative fully across
the political divide.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga said the fight against
corruption in the country is not against any individual.
“The fight against corruption is not about Ruto, Orengo,
Joho or anybody else but it is about the menace that has affected the country as
a whole,” Raila says.
Raila says those who have engaged in any corrupt activities
are in it alone and should not drag the name of their respective communities or
families in the matter.
He adds that such persons should carry their own cross since
when they got into the public service jobs as individuals, they end up amassing
wealth overnight and become stinking rich and when cornered they rush to their ethnic
cocoons as a shield for protection.
Wiper Party Boss Kalonzo Musyoka who had earlier spoken at
the function said Corruption should be fought at all cost.
“I want to sincerely thank you as the President for your
bold step and fight against corruption in the country and such should be
heightened,” Kalonzo said.
