Governor Nyong’o and his Deputy installed as Luo Elders.

KISUMU Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong’o and his Deputy Dr. Mathews Owili have today been installed as elders of the Luo in a ceremony that has been pomp and colorful.

At a ceremony attended by all the Elders of Nyakach Elders Development forum led by Mzee Jack Okoyo Obong’o held at Abwao Primary School in West Nyakach Ward, the Elders have installed the two leaders as one of their own and told them to lead without fear or favor.

During the installation, the Governor was presented with a spear, a shield, a traditional hat and a tradition luo gown as a symbol of authority from the Luo Community.

The Governor has been advised to keenly listen to the concerns from the residents of Kisumu City and tackle them with a lot of wisdom especially after being installed as an elder together with his deputy.

The elders have further advised Governor Nyong’o to rule with a lot of wisdom while embracing all the residents of the county without favor.

“We have today installed you as an elder together with your Deputy who is your principal assistant and now expected to rule with a lot of wisdom and deliver your campaign pledges to the people of Kisumu County,” the Elders said.

Deputy Governor Dr. Mathews Owili was also presented with a Luo Traditional gown, a spear and a shield and has been advised to be a good listener and work with a lot of obedience under his Boss Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o.

“As the principal Assistant to the Governor, you are expected to work with a lot of obedience under Governor Prof Peter Anyang Nyong’o who chose you to be his deputy,” they add.

Also installed as Nyakach elder is the current Nyakach Member of Parliament Joshua Aduma Owuor who is now serving his second term in Parliament as an MP.

The elders have described Aduma and a real fighter for the common man and a true patriot who is very fearless at all times.

Kisumu Governor Prof. Peter Anyang Nyong’o says he has a contract with the residents of Kisumu County as their elected Governor and will ensure that the county is developed under his leadership.

Nyong’o says his priority is strengthening health care system as well as establishing the Village councils within the wards in Kisumu County.

“We also have plans to ensure that the Community Health Workers within the county are given stipend and this will surely be realized,” Nyong’o says.

He says already there is Kisumu County Enterprise Fund which can be used to do various businesses by the residents of Kisumu County.

Nyongo says there is also need to defend the cultural heritage of the Luo Community, adding that the county has started establishing Cultural centers in sub counties.

He says such cultural centers will be able to help in the preservation of the cultural heritage within the county.

“Already plans are underway to build a shrine in Nyakach for the preservation of Omieri and one man has decided to give a piece of land towards this,” he adds.

Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr. Mathews Owili has thanked the elders for bestowing such honors to the Governor and himself.

“I want to sincerely thank the Nyakach elders and the entire residents of Nyakach who ensured that they front me to the County to be the Deputy Governor of Prof. Anyang Nyong’o who is now our Governor,” Dr. Owili says.

He says he will maintain to be loyal to the current Governor Prof Anyang Nyong’o who is serving his first term as the Governor of Kisumu County having been elected on August 4, 2017.

“My loyalty to my Boss is there and will continue to be there as we work together to deliver our pledges to the residents of Kisumu City,” Dr. Owili adds.
