Joy as tomatoes traders in Kibuye goes back to their area of business.

It been a shy of relief for traders in Kibuye Market who sells tomatoes in large scale as the County Government of Kisumu allows them to go back to their place of work after being relocated to another area several months ago.

The traders under the banner of Kibuye Market People’s Traders Union jumped and danced seriously today after they got news from the City Management of Kisumu led by Chairman Kisumu City Management Board Elijah Adul who has authorized their going back to the market where they used to sell their commodities before they were relocated to a place next to the National Housing Cooperation newly built Houses which they claim was not very conducive for doing business.

The traders were several months ago relocated to the area after the previous county Government promised to refurbish the section of the market but to date nothing has been done.

Last Month, they protested the move and walked out of a meeting that was allegedly boycotted by Kisumu City Manager Madam Dorris Ombara to address their plight.

They had presented a petition in regard to poor condition of place where they were relocated while terming it a time bomb claiming that it had no water and even toilets for their use as traders who are taxpayers.

Addressing the press at the old wholesale building today, the traders led by the Secretary of the Kibuye Market People’s Traders Union Charles Boro said they are very thankful to the county Government of Kisumu after considering taking them back there to do their business.

Boro says the City Management has taken the right decision to take the traders back to the place they were doing their businesses.

The Secretary says the County Government should not relent and ensure that the place is fully refurbished and alternative better place should be identified and the traders be relocated for such refurbishment.

“We have been assured that this market will be refurbished but in the meantime, we have been brought back here to do our businesses of selling tomatoes and we welcome this move very much,” Boro says.

He says the place where they were relocated did not have water, toilets and dumpsite which they could use properly.

He urges the traders to go back to their respective areas within the wholesale without scrambling to the place.

A trader known locally as Akawes has greatly thanked the County Government for the good gesture, adding that the county Government should surely rebuild the section of the market.

Rose Anyole says it is indeed a good move to bring them back to where they were doing their business, adding that they profusely thank former Councilor of the area Pamela Ogembo for her efforts to ensure that they are brought back to the place.

“We are thankful to the Governor of Kisumu Prof. Anyang Nyong’o for such a move through the City Management Board and this is a clear indication that the good things are on the way,” they further say.
