Kisumu County
Assembly adjourns for two months' recess.
THE County Assembly of Kisumu has today adjourned its
sittings for a recess which will last for two months.
The adjournment comes after a motion has been moved towards
the house going for the long recess beginning tomorrow December 7 to February
11 2019.
While moving the motion for the adjournment, Kisumu County
Assembly Majority Leader Ken Onyango said this will now give the Members of the
County Assembly ample time to re-connect with their electorates.
The majority leader said this will also provide enough time
for various committees which have pending reports to compile them and bring
them before the House when it resumes from the long recess for discussions.
He says the Committee on Budget and Appropriation still has
some work on Finance quarterly report which should be presented before the
House, adding that such a report should be compiled fully during the long
recess period hence brought before the House for members to debate.
“We would like to engage all the committees with pending
work during the period of long recess so as to ensure that such work is
performed during such time because there is ample time to do them,” Majority
leader says.
The Motion has been seconded by the Hon Paul Okwiri who said
it is good for the Members of the County Assembly to go for the recess.
Temporary Speaker Eric Agola led the debate which lasted
nearly 1 hour from 2:30pm to 3:30pm.
Market/Mlimani Ward Representative Seth Ochieng Kanga who
has supported the motion alongside his other colleagues said it will give ample
time for the MCAs to discuss issues of their concerns with their leaders.
The County Assembly of Kisumu last went on a one month
recess between July 6 and August 6 this year.
This long recess comes barely a day after the Assembly
yesterday passed a supplementary Budget for the County Government of Kisumu.
