Kisumu Judicial Officer relocates court sessions due non-conducive work environment.

A Judicial officer working at the Municipal Court within Kisumu City has relocated the court sessions due to non-conducive working environment.

The Officer, a senior resident Magistrate within the Municipal Court now the Kisumu County Court relocated to court 4 of the Kisumu Old Law Court building after allegedly complaining of non-conducive working environment.

The officer reportedly left the work station due to an alleged filth emanating from waste products from bats which have infested the place with impunity.

In a notice dated January 25, 2018 from John Owino, the Executive Office in charge of Kisumu Law Courts indicates that the officer had been relocated to Chief Magistrate’s Court Chamber 4 within the old court in Kisumu only a few meters from the Municipal Court.

When asked why the Judicial Officer had been relocated, Kisumu Municipal Court Prosecutor Peter Oluoch confirmed that indeed the officer had been relocated to the old Court building.

He says the officer had a last sitting there in July last year when the Court sat last before being relocate to the old court building.

He says the building housing the municipal court needs proper renovations, adding that in its current state cannot provide good working atmosphere.

Oluoch says the renovation of the building should cost about 300,000 that includes replacing the old iron sheets and repainting it among other repairs that are long overdue.

“It is  true that the Senior Resident Magistrate working at the Municipal Court had been relocated and the building needs proper renovations after which the officer will come back to conduct duties from the chambers here,” Oluoch says.

Oluoch says also needs to be repaired is the sewerage systems within the compound which are not properly functioning.

He adds that due to the court not working properly as expected, it has led to low revenue collection from the court.

He adds that some of the enforcement officers take advantage of the court not operating as expected to handle some cases outside the court.

He further says the court was established in the year 2010 and has been operational until last year.

The Building was previously used as offices for environment under the defunct Kisumu Municipality.

The Court deals with cases within the City such as public health issues, Physical planning cases and some petty offenses.
