My development Agenda for Kisumu is on the right course, Nyong’o says.

Kisumu Governor Prof. Peter Anyang Nyong’o has reiterated that his development agenda for Kisumu County is on the right course.

Governor Nyong’o says that already part of his ten point development agenda has been implemented within the one year he has been in office.

Some of the Governor Nyong’os ten point Agenda include Revitalizing Agriculture or food security and promotion of agribusiness as well as ensuring a healthy population living in a clean environment.

Building modern physical infrastructure, Promoting skills development and innovation and Opening the Kisumu lakefront for business and investment are among them.

Others include provision of decent housing in inclusive towns, semi-urban areas and villages, Promoting sports and culture.

Others are promoting tourism driven by culture and heritage alongside new products;promoting industrialization and a vibrant service sector; and Deepening structures of devolution while improving the efficiency and productivity of the county government.

He says the implementation of this agenda has involved setting goals for the short-term and mid-term.

Addressing the third session of the second County Assembly of Kisumu that has officially kicked off today, Nyong’o said the first thing he has done as the Governor is to established proper governance in Kisumu City by creating the Kisumu city management Board and a city Manager.

He says other achievement his County Government has made under the short term include Improving sanitation in the city including relocation of Kachok dumpsite as well as renegotiating the Kisumu Urban Project (KUP) and reviving projects under the program including Kibuye, Otonglo and Jubilee markets.

He adds that carrying out a census of Community Health Volunteers and providing modest rewards to make them Community Health Workers (CHWs} as well as Initiating the rejuvenation of the sugar and rice sub-sectors is part of the ten point agenda that have been tackled.

He further says commencing the establishment of Village Councils, Kisumu County Roads Maintenance Teams (KCRMT) and Kisumu Economic and Social Council (KECOSOC) is also part of this.

"All of these short-term goals are either fully achieved or almost done. The City Board is in place. We have successfully renegotiated the KUP grant for a no-cost extension to complete the projects envisaged under that program,” Nyong’o further says.
