South west ward Residents complain of 3 quarries emitting dust that affects them.

RESIDENTS of South West ward in Kisumu County have complained about three quarries situated within the area that emits serious dust which pollutes the environment thus affecting them.

The residents claim that the quarries known as Sajanand holdings Limited, Haya Holdings and Ujenzi have been grinding stones which eventually emit a lot of dust thus affecting their lives directly.

They say the three quarries are very notorious and something should be done to help in protecting and conserving the environment.

Led by the area Member of the County Assembly Eric Otieno Agolla, the residents have said they have had enough of the dust being produced from the quarries that is choking them.

The MCA says the dust being emitted is really affecting the environment, adding that the new machine which the company purchased recently which is used to produce sand from fine dust is not doing a good work.

Agola says he has tried to look for the management of the companies so as to discuss the issue but he had never met the management of the company.

“I have visited Sajanand Holdings particularly which is operating in our area but I have found that they have bought a new machine that produces a lot of dust and this must be look into on a serious note,” the MCA says.

He says the dust really affects those staying in Ojolla and Kanyawegi area and something should be done so as to help save the lives of the people staying around.

Agola says within this week, he will go back there again and hold talks with the management of the company on the issue.

Agola who is also the Deputy Speaker of the County  Assembly of Kisumu  adds that he will contact the Committee on Environment at the Assembly  so as to visit the premise and help to establish what is really transpiring.

“Our people have complained about this and I have promised that we will move in there as the Committee of Environment at the County Assembly of Kisumu so that we can establish what is really happening there,” he says.

When the media visited the area today to confirm the allegation, an employee of the Sajanand Holdings said that he is not authorized to address the press and referred to the media to the company’s boss.
