Form one student
from a Kisumu School dies mysteriously.
A FORM One
student schooling within one of the schools in Kisumu City died mysteriously
today morning throwing the school in a state of somber mood.
Following the
incident, the School is now on the spot after the student is alleged to have
died mysteriously at the school premises after attending morning preps.
He fellow students however raised
suspicion when the girl extended her stay at the hall of residence only to find
out that she was weak and could not stand up to attend the day’s school’s
academic activities.
Kisumu County Police Boss Benson
Mawewo confirmed the incidents and said the girl identified as Anastacia
Chepkoech of Kisumu Girls High School left class at 6.30am and went straight to
the dormitory.
Mawewo said the students rushed to
notify the school’s matron who later organized for her to be taken to the
nearby County Referral Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body was later moved to the
mortuary of the Level 4 hospital awaiting postmortem.
“Preliminary report we have as the
police indicate that the girl has been sick for the last one week and was being
treated at the school dispensary,” the Police boss said.
The Kisumu Police Boss said they
have launched investigations to ascertain the veracity of the information
collected from the institution.
He says the police are closely
working with the medical personnel as they await the result of postmortem to
establish what actually caused the death of the students.
A news source at the hospital who is
not authorized to talk to the media told some journalists that the deceased was
taken to the facility by two teachers from the said school.
This comes as a section of parents
raised concerns that the school has been frustrating students and always
reluctant to release students when they report sick.
The hospital administrator Evans
Oloo said that the hospital pathologist is waiting for the parents of the
deceased in order for them to carry out the autopsy.
When the media visited the school
and stayed there for nearly three hours, their effort to get a comment from the
school administration turned futile after the principal Margaret Mamai Mechumo
avoided the media and hid within the school.
For the better part of the day, Officers
from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations from Kisumu Central Police
station conducted a series of probe but did not talk to the media because of
the sensitivity of the matter.
The parents of the deceased who were
also notified were said to have been locked at the headmistress’s office for
the better part of the day while in a meeting with the school’s Authority
including the school’s some Board of Management Members.
