OFFICIALS of Orange Democratic Movement {ODM} Party have said the issue of Special Economic Zone Project earmarked for Kisumu County should proceed.

The party through its coordinating committee in Kisumu County Led by the county’s ODM Chairman Prof. Ayiecho Olweny, the officials said the issue of having an Industrial Park project within Ombeyi ward in Muhoroni constituency of Kisumu County under the special Economic zone project will be of greater benefit to all the communities living in the region and beyond.

Addressing the press in Kisumu today, the ODM Party officials in Kisumu County has termed the Monday’s this week incident its party leader Raila Odinga was heckled in the presence of three Cabinet Secretaries who had come to witness was very unfortunate thereby condemning it.

They claim that those youth who heckled the former premier were not within from the ward but were ferried to do what they have termed as an awkward act.

They said the project will come with a lot of job creation to the youth within and outside the region, adding that trying to block a project of such magnitude through heckling will not help in anyway.

They further claim that the land which is supposed to have the project belongs to the County Government of Kisumu through a Trust land, adding that the County Government is possessing the title deal.

They said the project will also help boost the business within the area as well as ensuring that the area is too opened up in terms of its infrastructure.

The ODM party officials in Kisumu County further said this is a project which may be as a result of the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition Leader Raila Odinga on March 9, 2018.

“We want to thank President Uhuru Kenyatta and our Party Leader Raila Odinga for thinking about the Special Economic Zone project in Kisumu through and Industrial Park that is to be built in Muhoroni Sub-County,” Ayiecho said.

They have called on the police to probe the incident and bring the suspects to book, adding that any act of lawlessness should not be allowed to occur in a government function of that magnitude.
